Senior Geotechnical Engineer

We are working with a leading gold producer to recruit a Senior Geotechnical Engineer. This opportunity will be FIFO (8/6) from Perth to WA Goldfields. The role reports to the Geotechnical Superintendent, and is responsible for:
  • Collect and analyse geotechnical data, investigating and documenting rock fall events and ground control issues. Maintain and update rock fall, slope monitoring, and seismic databases where applicable
  • Ensure geotechnical feasibility assessments are of high quality by determining design parameters, conducting modelling, and advising on optimal mine design and sequencing
  • Assist engineers with mine design, planning, and operations by providing geotechnical insights and recommendations
  • Supervise and mentor geotechnical personnel, ensuring daily work plans align with operational targets. Conduct regular inspections and audits of open pit and underground mines to ensure compliance with ground control standards and procedures
  • Carry out daily geotechnical engineering tasks, including developing plans, blasting strategies, inspections, data collection, geotechnical monitoring, stability analysis, recommendations, and QA/QC
  • Communicate geotechnical aspects of mining operations to both the workforce and management
  • Lead and participate in medium-term projects to ensure mine-wide or slope stability. Collect and analyze geotechnical data to support future mining recommendations
  • Manage geotechnical aspects of the mine with some input from senior staff, focusing on medium-term mining requirements
  • Provide geotechnical expertise by ensuring compliance with mining regulations, legislation, and company safety objectives related to ground conditions. Engage with business partners to uphold statutory requirements
  • Identify and manage geotechnical risks, developing monitoring systems to address them. Maintain an understanding of excavation design, geological conditions, and operational challenges to identify potential concerns and opportunities.
Key requirements:
  • Degree in Geotechnical Engineering (or equivalent) from a recognised tertiary institution
  • Minimum 5 years experience in Australian Gold mining
  • Current "C" Class Western Australian Drivers Licence
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficient in mine planning and design software, particularly Deswik.
