Project Director

Our client:
MPI has partnered exclusively with an ASX listed exploration and development company that is focused on developing its world class gold project in Africa. Having delivered a comprehensive DFS, highlighting exceptional financial outcomes, our client is well positioned to advance the project to development. 

On their behalf we are seeking an experienced Project Director to drive the pre-engineering activities ahead of a Final Investment Decision (FID) by the end of 2025.

Key responsibilities:

• FEED phase: manage the appointed engineer and coordinate all FEED activities, ensuring alignment with project objectives and timelines leading up to the FID
• Team development: build and manage a high-performing project team, fostering a collaborative and results-driven environment
• Project development: scale the team and internal capabilities as the construction phase commences, ensuring adherence to budget, schedule, safety and quality standards 
• Risk management: identify potential risks and implement mitigation strategies to address challenges proactively
• Reporting: provide regular updates to the board and senior management on project progress, challenges, and achievements. 

Qualifications:

• Education: degree in engineering (civil, mechanical) or a related field with project management experience
• Experience: previous experience in project management for mining development or infrastructure projects, a combination of both owner's team and engineering firms is essential  
• Technical knowledge: strong understanding of mining operations, project management methodologies, and engineering principles  
• Leadership skills: demonstrated ability to build and lead multidisciplinary teams, with a focus on safety, efficiency, and quality. Experience working in West Africa or similar regions, with an understanding of local customs, regulations, and community engagement practices is highly desirable.
