Technical Services Manager

We are pleased to be partnering with Santana Minerals and Matakanui Gold to recruit a Technical Services Manager on a permanent basis for their new gold project in Central Otago, New Zealand. This is a permanent, full-time leadership role within a growing operation focused on responsible resource development, long-term value creation, and strong community partnerships.

Reporting to the General Manager, the Technical Services Manager will lead the open pit technical services function, including mine planning, scheduling, geology, survey, geotechnical services, and performance reporting. You will play a critical role in maximising the value of the resource through optimised mine designs, robust controls, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role offers the chance to be part of one of New Zealand’s most significant gold developments in decades, contributing to a project designed to deliver sustainable, inter-generational benefits to the region.

Key responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage the Technical Services team, including Mining Engineering, Geology and Survey functions
  • Develop and maintain life-of-mine, budget and short-term mine plans and schedules for ore and waste
  • Optimise pit designs, cutbacks, haul profiles and waste dump strategies to improve cost and value outcomes
  • Work closely with site operations to ensure production plans meet mill feed requirements for tonnes and grade
  • Prepare mine budgets, physicals and cost forecasts
  • Implement and maintain robust controls for mine design and plan changes
  • Oversee geotechnical monitoring and slope performance management
  • Provide engineering input into drill and blast optimisation, minimising dilution and pit wall damage
  • Manage fleet management and production reporting systems to ensure accurate, reliable data for decision-making
  • Prepare and analyse monthly production and cost reports, identifying key variances and improvement opportunities
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and maintain a pipeline of optimisation projects
  • Ensure full compliance with health, safety, environmental and company standards.
Key requirements:
  • Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related discipline
  • 15 years' experience in open pit mining operations, with strong exposure to mine planning and technical services leadership
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary technical teams and work collaboratively with operations
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience in budgeting, cost control and performance reporting
