Exploration Geologist

Staying busy doesn’t always mean building experience. This contract is designed to give you real exposure to an active exploration program, not just a seat on site.

You’ll be embedded in a live drilling and logging program in the Laverton region, where your work feeds directly into planning and technical decisions. This is a hands-on field role, working close to the rigs and alongside an experienced exploration team who value accurate data and solid field practice.

Your day-to-day will involve core and chip logging across varied lithologies, supervising RC drilling, and applying QAQC standards that actually matter. You’ll be trusted with sample integrity, drilling oversight, and geological inputs that influence where the program goes next.

The roster is a predictable 16/12 FIFO from Perth, making it easier to maintain balance across longer contracts. On site, you’ll be based in a well-established exploration camp with air-conditioned rooms and a full-time cook, set up to support longer swings without unnecessary friction.

This role tends to suit geologists who want to sharpen their technical judgement, gain confidence supervising contractors, and be properly involved in an exploration workflow from logging through to interpretation.

The company behind this role is running a structured, well-supported exploration program in a recognised gold district. They’re known for clear systems, realistic expectations, and giving geologists the space to do their work properly.

You’ll be working across drilling, sampling, QAQC, mapping and interpretation, rather than being siloed into one narrow task. There’s strong emphasis on safety, environmental standards, and respectful engagement with land access and community requirements.

This role works well for someone with a solid geology foundation who wants to apply their skills in the field, learn from experienced colleagues, and build experience that translates into future exploration or production roles.

To be successful, you’ll bring:
  • BSc in Geology (Honours)
  • Relevant exploration field experience (minimum 12 months)
  • Strong grounding in geochemistry, core and chip logging, structural geology, mapping, sampling and drilling methods
  • Working knowledge of GIS and exploration software
  • High standards around QAQC, safety, and data integrity
  • Manual driver’s licence, confident 4WD skills, and medical fitness for remote work
  • Provide First Aid and full Australian working rights
If you’re looking for a contract that offers genuine responsibility, structured exposure and practical field experience, apply now or get in touch to discuss details.

MPI can only consider candidates with relevant experience who hold Australian permanent residency or valid work rights and are currently based in Australia.
