Open Pit Geologist
If you want hands on open pit geology without layers of process, this role puts you close to the dig face, supporting a new operation as it ramps up.
This contract role supports the start up of new open pit operations in the Murchison. You will be part of a small, practical site team, working B2B with the Senior Mine Geologist and alongside mining operations.
The focus is operational geology done properly. You will provide geological support to ensure ore control is accurate and aligned with mining activity. This includes grade control data collection and validation, geological interpretation in active mining areas, and reconciliation review with clear feedback into short term models.
You will work closely with supervisors and planners to optimise ore recovery, minimise dilution, and improve confidence in short term production forecasts. The role suits someone who prefers clear scope, direct communication, and being trusted to apply sound geological judgement rather than managing unnecessary process.
This is a defined three month contract, making it suitable for someone between roles or looking to contribute meaningfully to a start up phase without a long term commitment.
Key requirements and background
Experience in open pit grade control and ore control workflows
Strong field based geological interpretation skills
Confidence working in active mining areas and engaging with operations
Reconciliation review experience and ability to close the loop into short term models
Willingness to mentor and support site geology staff
Practical, site focused mindset with clear communication skills
The site team is lean by design. Decisions are made on site and geology has a direct influence on outcomes. You will be using your technical skills daily, from grade control through to real time validation of interpretations as mining progresses.
You will also support and mentor site geology staff, helping lift consistency and confidence in grade control practices. This works well for someone who enjoys improving systems, sharing experience, and working collaboratively with mining rather than in isolation.
The roster is 8 days on, 6 days off, FIFO from Perth. The environment is practical, respectful, and focused on doing the fundamentals well.
If this sounds like a role where your experience would be used properly, apply now or get in touch for a confidential discussion.
MPI can only consider candidates with relevant experience who hold Australian permanent residency or valid work rights and are currently based in Australia.
