Project Resource Geologist

If you want full ownership of a copper-gold resource and the authority to shape it properly, this role gives you exactly that.

You will be the technical owner of an early-stage copper–gold resource. You will build the model, control the quality of the data, and sign it off as the project moves forward. This is not a support role, and it is not about maintaining someone else’s work. It is about setting the standard from the ground up.

The project:
A privately owned mining group operating in Southeast Asia is advancing a copper–gold discovery that has been in active exploration for the past four years. Drilling began in 2022 and continues to test the size and continuity of the system at depth.

The mineralisation is structurally controlled and still being understood. The project is evolving quickly and requires sound technical judgement and practical decision making rather than rigid process.

The business runs lean by design. Senior technical roles are expected to take ownership, work independently, and make decisions. This role exists to give the project a single point of accountability for the resource.

The role:
As Project Resource Geologist, you will be accountable for the resource across the project.

Your focus will be on geological interpretation, modelling, estimation, and data quality, with responsibility for signing off under JORC as the project progresses.

This is not a logging role. However, it is not a desk only position. You will stay close enough to drilling and sampling to be confident in the data feeding the model and to guide work as the geological understanding develops. The role requires someone who is present, engaged, and invested on site at key points, particularly when important technical decisions are being made.

Key accountabilities:
  • Act as JORC Competent Person, including responsibility for resource sign off and public reporting
  • Own and maintain the geological and resource models for the project
  • Lead estimation work including domaining, block modelling, and grade estimation
  • Set and maintain QA/QC standards across drilling and sampling programs
  • Ensure databases, assumptions, and outputs are accurate and defensible
  • Work closely with drilling programs to test and refine geological interpretations.
About you:
You are a highly experienced copper–gold resource geologist with strong capability in modelling and estimation. You have Competent Person sign off under JORC, or are clearly operating at that level.

Experience across exploration and into development or production environments will be advantageous.

Just as important is how you work. You are self-sufficient, comfortable with uncertainty, and confident making technical judgement calls. You do not need heavy structure or large teams to be effective, and you are motivated by ownership and impact rather than maintaining established systems.

Location and lifestyle:
The project is located in Southeast Asia, at a remote site supported by a small camp based operation. Facilities are basic but comfortable, and the environment suits someone pragmatic, adaptable, and focused on the work rather than amenities.

The site team operates on a 4 weeks on, 2 weeks off roster, with FIFO options from Australia. There is also flexibility for those open to relocating and committing longer term to a developing project in the region.

This role suits someone who wants to build a resource, not inherit one, and who values technical ownership over corporate structure.

Unfortunately, MPI are only able to consider people with appropriate and relevant experience, and who are either Australian Permanent Residents or have the necessary permits to work in Australia and whom are currently in Australia.
