Geology Superintendent - Underground

If you enjoy being close to the orebody and the team, this role gives you the scale to stay hands-on without stepping away from leadership.

This Geology Superintendent role sits across two operating underground mines, with a third moving into production, giving you a mix of steady-state delivery and genuine growth. It operates on an 8:6 FIFO roster ex Perth, offering a consistent rhythm while still keeping you closely connected to site.

You’ll lead a team of five Senior Geologists, stepping into a structure that’s already functioning well but still evolving as the operation expands.

There’s a balance here that’s often hard to find. You’ll have full ownership of underground geology, but you won’t be pushed too far back from the detail. This suits someone who still values time on site, working closely with the orebody and supporting the team day to day, rather than purely managing from a distance.

The remit covers production geology, reconciliation, and ongoing resource development, with a clear expectation around maintaining performance while contributing to the next stage of growth as the third mine comes online. You’ll be working directly with site leadership, with the ability to influence how geology supports broader mining outcomes.

The company behind the role is in a stable and expanding phase, with a clear operational focus and a track record of building teams around capability rather than churn. The geology function is well regarded internally, with a collaborative relationship across mining and technical services.

This tends to work well for experienced underground geologists who have moved into leadership roles and want to retain technical involvement, or for those at Senior level stepping into a broader Superintendent scope.

To be considered, you’ll bring:

  • Degree in Geology (BSc or equivalent)
  • Honours degree advantageous
  • S26 Supervisor qualification
  • Current C Class driver’s licence
  • Membership with AusIMM or AIG (or working towards)
  • Strong underground gold experience (narrow vein)
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience

If you’re looking for a role where you can stay close to the ground, lead a capable team, and be part of a growing operation rather than a static one, this is worth exploring.

Unfortunately, MPI Recruitment can only consider applicants with relevant qualifications and experience who are Australian Permanent Residents or hold valid working rights for Australia.
