Geotechnical Engineer (Open Pit Operations)
An opportunity has become available for an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join a large-scale gold and copper operation in Western Australia, providing operational support during a planned period of leave coverage.
This role suits a hands-on geotechnical professional who enjoys working closely with mining operations and technical teams to maintain safe, productive and efficient open pit mining activities. The site operates within a mature hard rock environment and offers the chance to work alongside an experienced technical team in a fast-paced operational setting.

Reporting to the Geotechnical Supervisor, you will provide practical geotechnical support across active mining areas, ensuring ground conditions are monitored, assessed and managed effectively.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Conducting routine pit inspections and identifying potential geotechnical hazards
- Providing practical recommendations to manage and mitigate ground control risks
- Supporting mining and technical teams with day-to-day geotechnical advice
- Monitoring and interpreting slope performance data from site monitoring systems
- Assisting with pit wall performance analysis and reconciliation activities
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives relating to pit design, wall performance and operational safety
- Communicating risks and controls clearly with stakeholders across site
- Supporting compliance with site ground control standards and operational requirements.
To be successful, you will bring:
- A degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering or Geology with relevant geomechanics studies
- Approximately 5+ years of operational geotechnical experience within hard rock open pit mining environments
- Strong understanding of slope stability, ground control and geotechnical risk management
- Experience interpreting monitoring data and translating findings into practical operational outcomes
- Exposure to software packages such as Vulcan, Deswik, MineSight, GEM4D, Rocscience Suite and/or Trajec3D
- Well-developed communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and operational stakeholders
- A proactive approach, strong attention to detail and the ability to work autonomously when required
