Underground Trainer Assessor

Staying busy in underground mining is not the same as progressing your skills and influence. This role fixes that gap for experienced trainers who want to shape operator competency and safety outcomes directly.

This Safety Advisor / Underground Training Assessor position delivers workplace-based training, Verification of Competency (VOC) assessments, and mentoring for underground mobile plant operators across underground gold mining operations in the central WA mining region. You will work an even time roster (8/6) on full-time basis, partnering with supervisors and site teams to maintain compliance, close training gaps, and drive continuous improvement in health, safety, environment, and training systems.

You will:
  • Deliver and assess competency-based training for underground mobile plant including ITs, agitators, telehandlers, service vehicles, water carts, charge-up equipment, Normet, Spraymec, and ancillary units
  • Conduct VOCs, maintain competency matrices, training records, and documentation aligned to Certificate IV standards
  • Lead workplace inspections, incident investigations, risk assessments, JHAs, SWMS reviews, and corrective actions
  • Support inductions, workforce development, emergency preparedness, and regulatory compliance
  • Use electronic safety and training management systems while liaising with client representatives.
The operation provides stable underground mining contracts, clear leadership support, resources for effective delivery, and opportunity to build credible workforce capability on major sites. The environment values practical expertise, accountability, and direct impact without politics or instability.

About you:
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122 or equivalent) is essential
  • Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (BSB41419 or equivalent) is highly regarded
  • Minimum 5–7 years underground mining experience with proven delivery of training, VOCs, and mobile plant assessments
  • Current Australian driver’s licence, Working at Heights ticket, and national police clearance
  • Strong field-based safety leadership, communication, organisational skills, and hands-on mentoring ability
  • Mines Rescue or Advanced First Aid is desirable.
Competitive remuneration. Immediate commencement. Long-term role with a gold mine owner/operator in expansion mode.

If this matches your underground expertise and desire to grow with a company going places, please reach out for an informal chat.

Unfortunately, MPI are only able to consider people with appropriate and relevant experience, and who are either Australian Permanent Residents or have the necessary permits to work in Australia and whom are currently in Australia.
