Underground Manager

We are pleased to be exclusively partnering with one of our premier clients to recruit an Underground Manager on a permanent basis for Gold Project within WA, to lead the start-up of a new underground operation. From construction through to production, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the people, systems, and culture that will define long-term success.

Reporting to the Project Director, you will be responsible for the safe establishment, operational readiness and ongoing performance of the underground mine. As the appointed statutory Underground Manager, you will provide visible leadership while ensuring compliance with all legislative requirements. This hands-on leadership role requires both strategic vision and operational expertise and is ideally suited to someone who enjoys building high-performing operations from the ground up and leaving a lasting legacy.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the successful start-up of the underground mining operation, from development through to steady-state production
  • Fulfil the statutory responsibilities of the Underground Manager, ensuring full compliance with all legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Champion a zero-harm culture through visible leadership, strong field presence and proactive safety engagement
  • Develop and implement robust operational systems, processes and controls across mine planning, scheduling and execution
  • Build, mentor and develop a high-performing team, with a strong focus on capability development and succession planning
  • Ensure all inspections, audits, reporting and compliance obligations are completed to the highest standard
  • Align operational performance with company strategic objectives, driving productivity, continuous improvement and sustainable value creation
  • Identify and implement initiatives that improve operational efficiency, productivity and long-term mine performance.

Key Requirements:
  • Minimum of six years' experience in underground mining operations
  • Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering recognised in Australia
  • Western Australian First Class Mine Manager's Certificate
  • Demonstrated technical and operational leadership within underground mining
  • Strong planning, analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Commercial acumen with the ability to optimise cost, productivity and operational performance
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • A proactive approach to continuous improvement and innovation
  • Current C class manual driver's licence.
